Tall and sturdy!

Got these steps so our chi-weenie, and our mature chi could get up onto our high bed. The older one has been having a but more trouble jumping up, and we were afraid the jumping down would cause joint issues, so I ordered these steps based on reviews.

They do seem very sturdy, and yes, the dishwashing soap helps to get the dowel ends into the holes. There are also (not pictured in the diagrams) a 3rd nub on one side of the stair front pieces that have to go into side A, as there is no hole for them in side B (realized that after I couldn't get the piece to fit snugly).

The chi-weenie learned to use the steps after I walked her up and down twice, and the older chi he has been used to jumping for 7 yrs so still doesn't use them all the way up (he has very long legs), but uses the first and/or second step, and uses the stairs sometimes to come down. I think he'll eventually realized it feels better to use the stairs.

I would definitely recommend these - they are quite big (but they have to be for the height) so make sure you have the floor space, snap together, and I'm sure I will like the fact that I can wash the stair rugs in the washer.

  1. We bought these stairs for our aging Bichon Frise, who can't jump onto our bed any longer because of problems in his rear joints. We are pleased with the quality of the stairs. They are sturdy and slope slightly toward the front. They are an adequate width and appropriate height for a bed that's well off the floor. The height of the steps is no greater than our house stairs.

However, our dog was reluctant to climb the stairs at first. Bichons are notorious for getting into a habit and not changing, so we began training him to use the stairs as follows: we put him on the next to top stair, so that it was an easy jump up and into bed. After he had gotten used to that for 2-3 days, we put him on the step below that and gave lots of encouragement. Once he'd gotten used to climbing into bed from there, we put him on the bottom step and then on the floor, repeating the same routine as we went down. After each successful negotiation of the stairs, we gave him a treat. After a couple weeks of training, he now bounds happily into bed without a treat.

  3. I now do not have to get up all night to put my yorkies back on the bed after they get up to get water. It is a little light at the top and makes a little noise when they jump from it to the bed but I can deal with that as long as I don't have to get up.

  4. These steps are the tallest I could find and allows my 4 lb. Yorkie to access my bed on his own. The steps were easy to assemble and are very sturdy.

  6. This is a good, solid set of pet stairs. Everything is as described and I am very pleased. The stairs are sturdy, yet lightweight. They are a little difficult to put together, requiring some extra strength, but using dish soap as described in the directions works well.

  7. Had this for a year now, and it's great for my pets. It is longer than some, but I have a higher bed. With this my dogs don't have to make a leap from the top step to get onto the bed. The steps are carpeted and are also wide enough to ensure the dogs's safety.

  8. A little pricy, but worth it. they are taller than other stairs i've gotten. the plastic is nice, w/the carpeted (washable - they come off w/velcro) step inserts. I've had the all carpeted stairs - and - well they nasty. These are tall enough so my older cats can easily get to a counter top where i feed all my cats. would also work great against a taller bed.

  9. I bought this so my two chihuahuas could get on and off my bed easily and it's even better than I had hoped for. I put it together in about 15 minutes and it's very sturdy. The top step is almost level with the top of my bed and it didn't take my dogs long to figure out how to get up and down the steps. This was a great purchase and I highly recommend it.
